2-9-2017 -- In this post, I will be sharing a "garden" craft idea. This is a craft project that Lauren did in Brightly Beaming Resources' (Step 3: Sound of the Week) home school curriculum for the "ar" sound as in "garden". This week Lauren will make a "garden" craft for her home school project. She is going to make a flower garden, the flowers are made with different colors of construction papers and patterned papers with buttons and beads in the center, barbecue sticks for the stems and an empty box with Styrofoam at the base where Lauren will insert the sticks of the paper flowers to create her flower garden in a box.

=================================================================
* inverted printed box with both ends taped in masking tape (skip process for a plain cardboard box), cut and leave an opening on box to be able to insert paper flowers

=================================================================
DONE BY ADULT OR PARENT:
=================================================================
Garden Box: Take a medium or small sized empty box (preferably a deep one). Depending on the type of box you will be using, if it's the type of box that is printed, you can invert this box to reveal the cardboard material inside and just tape it back again using a white masking tape. If you are using a pure cardboard type material of box, you can skip this process. Make a cut or opening on the box to be able to insert the paper flowers later.
Garden Grass: Take a green construction paper and draw or trace a grass pattern on it.
Flower Stems: Wrap barbecue sticks or chopsticks with a green or brown construction paper.
Flower Leaves: Fold green construction paper several times to create multiple sections on paper. Draw a leaf pattern on top of folded paper then cut to create several leaves in one cutting.
Flowers: Draw or use some flower templates. Create the same flowers or do a variety of flower shapes for your garden box. Click Here For Free Printable Flower Shapes Templates in various shapes and sizes. Create a single size or 2 sizes of flower patterns (big and small flowers), let child choose colors of construction papers and the patterned papers to be used. Trace a flower pattern or print flower shapes template alternately on a construction paper and on a patterned paper. Your child may create a single flower in different sizes, colors and pattern papers or create a double flower in 1 (with 2 sizes of flower patterns glued together: small flower pattern on top of big flower pattern) as shown here.
* Garden Top Covering: Cut brown construction papers, into smaller strips (about 1/8 in size).

* Cut flower, leaf, and grass patterns
* Decorate or glue flowers together
* Draw leaf details (optional)
* Tape sticks on flowers

STEPS IN DOING THIS GARDEN CRAFT:
=================================================================
1. Let child draw details on the box using pencil, trace pencil details with markers then color it with crayon or oil pastel colors or they can simply paint it with any color of choice using poster paint. Set box aside.
2. Next, let child create the flowers. Add a button or bead as a centerpiece using hot glue. Put hot glue on the spot and guide child to glue bead or button on it.
3. After creating the flowers, it's now time to attached the stems. Let the child tape sticks at the back of each flowers.
4. Next, let child glue some grass patterns or grasses on the sides of the box from the inside using liquid glue.
5. Next, let child put pieces of foam into the box, we use a large foam ball cut into smaller pieces as that's what we have available but it's better to use foam blocks if you have them. Cut the stems of each flowers to arrange them in different lengths (taller and shorter) than the other. Let the child insert the flower sticks onto the foams one by one.
6. After inserting the flowers, let the child crumple the small pieces of cut 1/8 size brown construction papers to cover top of garden box.
7. Finally, let child glue the leaves on the stems to complete their paper flowers garden. They may draw additional leaf vein details on it or simply glue the leaves as it is using liquid glue.
8. And there you go, the "paper flowers garden box" is DONE. Try creating one with your kid(s) today!
