1-25-2017 -- In this post, I will be sharing a "bookmark" craft idea. This was a craft project that Lauren did in Brightly Beaming Resources' (Step 3: Sound of the Week) home school curriculum for the short vowel combination "oo" sound as in "book". This is the most fun part of the curriculum, making the art projects. Lauren is going to make a "bookmark", I took some bookmark templates and printed them on a white folder. Lauren drew and color the details on the template then glued 2 of her cutout pictures as heads on top. She wrote some personal messages on a small piece of construction paper and glued them in the middle of the bookmark body.

MATERIALS FOR CREATING THIS CRAFT:
=================================================================
* white folder * printed personal picture(s) * plain scissors * craft scissors * pencil * crayons * coloring markers * gel ink pens * black permanent marker * construction papers * dry glue stick
=================================================================
READY FOR KID BEFORE STARTING ACTIVITY ALONG WITH OTHER MATERIALS:
=================================================================
* cut pictures
* cut bookmark template
* cut hand and feet patterns
=================================================================
DONE BY ADULT OR PARENT:
=================================================================
* Bookmark Body: Create your own or search for blank "bookmark templates". I took this blank bookmark template with 4 kinds of patterns in 1 template. Make or choose a bookmark template that is a bit bigger or wider than what is shown here so there's more room for some details and the message to be glued or written in it. To print a bookmark template directly onto the folder, cut a white folder in two, also cut the extended parts on the side to make it even. Insert one part of a folder into the printer and print the bookmark templates on it. Cut the templates.
* Bookmark Head: Take the other half of the white folder that was cut earlier and insert it into the printer to print photos of the child on it. Make sure the picture to be printed is adjusted to fit the size of the bookmark body it will be glued onto.
* Bookmark Hands & Feet: Draw patterns on a construction paper.
* Paper For Bookmark Message: Cut a small piece of construction paper in any color of choice, just enough that it will fit in the middle of the bookmark template. Cut using craft scissors for added style

DONE BY CHILD:
=================================================================
* cut picture head
* cut hand and feet patterns
* draw details on bookmark body
* color drawings on bookmark
* glue bookmark pieces together
* write message for bookmark
=================================================================
STEPS IN DOING THIS BOOKMARK CRAFT:
=================================================================
1. Let child draw some details on the bookmark using a pencil. They may create any clothing detail of choice on their bookmark body.
2. Next, let child trace the details they drew on the bookmark with coloring marker then color it with crayons.
3. After coloring the drawings on the bookmark, let child glue the picture head on top of the bookmark.
4. Next, let child write any short meaningful message on the small piece of construction paper that was cut earlier using gel ink pens. They may come up with it themselves or simply copy a message to write on the bookmark. Then glue the paper in the middle of the bookmark body.
5. After gluing the message, let child glue the hand patterns on both sides from the back towards the front like it is holding the paper message at the front, next let child glue the feet at the bottom of the bookmark.
6. Next, let child trace the details of the hands and feet with black permanent marker to make them stand out.
7. And there you go, the "personalized folder bookmarks" are DONE. The bookmarks are cute and fun, the kids can use them as bookmark for notebooks or their books.
