Zombie Toss: Create A Plants VS Zombies Inspired Halloween Game + Links to FREE Printables!

This year, for some fun this Halloween season, I made this game that me and Lauren played inspired and involving characters from the popular tower defense game "Plants VS Zombies". I call this game "zombie toss", I use a small empty cardboard box to create a zombie head that will be used to toss onto the plant characters. I used small disposable cups as stand of the plant characters. The cups hold prizes inside them that anyone can get from knocking down any of the plant characters. Paper Soup / Stone Soup Craft

12-15-2016 --  In this post, I will be sharing a "soup" craft idea. This was a craft project that Lauren did in Brightly Beaming Resources' (Step 3: Sound of the Week) home school curriculum for the "ou" sound as in "soup". This is the most fun part of the curriculum, making the art projects. I thought about doing a soup craft based on the "Stone Soup Story" by stuffing a styro bowl with some crumpled papers inside then covering it with paper. The soup pieces (sliced vegetables & meat) made of pieces of construction papers and small foam balls cut into quarters are glued on top.

READY FOR KID BEFORE STARTING ACTIVITY ALONG WITH OTHER MATERIALS:
=================================================================

* cut saucer pattern
* cut pieces of paper for base of soup
* cut paper pattern for top of soup
* cut small foam balls (for meat pieces)
* cut pieces of construction papers (for vegetable pieces)
* cut props - chicken, salt container, etc.

=================================================================
DONE BY ADULT OR PARENT:
=================================================================

* Bowl Saucer: Take a saucer (preferably one with a size that is a bit larger than the styro bowl you are using), trace the saucer on a cardboard material from an empty box or any heavy weight paper material.

* Soup Base: Cut several pieces of paper to crumple into small balls. You can use any paper, such as old news papers, magazines, scratch papers, etc.

* Soup Top Pattern:
Trace the bottom of the styro bowl you will be using on a paper with  a color shade similar to a soup, you may offer possible paper color options and allow child to choose a color. Cut the pattern and measure it inside the bowl, cut any excess on the sides to make it just right. This pattern will be used to cover the crumpled papers inside the bowl.

* Soup Meat & Vegies: For the meat pieces, take some 1 inch foam balls and cut them into quarters or size of choice using a hand held cutter. For the bits of vegetables, Draw some lines on construction papers in vegetable colors using a ruler.

* Props: Create any props of choice such as a chicken leg, butter, salt, and spoon etc. Draw these pieces on a cardboard from an empty box or any heavy weight paper material.

=================================================================
DONE BY CHILD:
=================================================================

* Cut & paint saucer pattern

* paint styro bowl

* paint foam ball

* crumple pieces of paper for base of soup

* glue soup pieces together

* color soup props, add/draw labels and glue them together

================================================================= STEPS IN DOING THIS SOUP CRAFT:
=================================================================

1. First, let child paint styro bowl and saucer pattern with any color of choice. Also, let child paint the foam ball pieces with brown poster paint. Set aside painted pieces to dry for a couple of minutes.

2. Once the paper bowl is dry, let child crumple pieces of paper into several small balls. Fill  the bowl with the crumpled ball of papers until the middle part.

\

3. Next, let child spread liquid glue on the top soup pattern and let child put it over the crumpled papers to cover them. The crumpled papers underneath holds the paper soup pattern on top.

4. Now, it's time to decorate the soup, let child glue the colorful bits of construction papers using liquid glue and the small foam pieces as chicken meat using hot glue. Put hot glue on the spot and guide child to glue foam pieces on the spot.

5. Next, Let child create extra props. Let child create spoon by gluing together an oval pattern to a craft stick, add labels, details and color any additional props of choice then glue the pieces together. Cut a thin strip of cardboard and tape it in an "L" shape at the back of each props (such as a chicken leg or salt container, etc.) to enable the pieces to stand up and be displayed on a flat surface such as a table. And there you go, the "paper stone soup craft" is DONE. Put the bowl on top of the paper saucer and add in some extra props such as spoon, chicken leg, salt, butter,  etc. or a piece of stone.

Learning is more fun when accompanied by a song or a story. Here's a nice story video of the popular "Stone Soup Story" by (smart kids) that you can show to your kids, this one is a good version with clear and great narration.

A great version of the "Stone Soup Song" is this one by (campfire crew) with nice tune and fun lyrics using popular nursery rhymes characters.
