DIY Sunflower Theme Tarpaulin-Like Birthday Banner

Lauren's 8th birthday is coming and I was thinking about possible themes for her upcoming birthday. I thought about Lauren's personality and what a cheerful child she is. I'll be basing the theme and colors of her birthday this year with her personality. I thought about smiley faces, sun, and sunflower.

I like the idea of "sunflower" and the color yellow for her birthday this year. I'm not sure if "sunflower" is used as a birthday theme before, so I did a search online and found several birthday ideas using "sunflower". I thought about doing a birthday banner for her and this is what I came up with. At first, I'm not sure if it's gonna work or come out right but I'm glad I went ahead with it, people think it's a nice and creative idea when I share some photos on social media.

ABOUT THIS HANDMADE PAPER TARPAULIN

This is just like a small tarpaulin banner like the ones you can buy in the stores but the difference is that it is made of paper and it is handmade and a personal one. You need to prepare and do this like 2 or a week ahead of the actual birthday. So you have more time to prepare and can make it one piece at a time.

GETTING CREATIVE WITH YOUR SUNFLOWER THEME TARPAULIN BANNER

I used yellow, white, and bit of blue cartolina paper as contrasting color for the background of this sunflower themed paper birthday banner. You can use the whole cartolina for a bigger banner or cut the cartolina in a smaller desired size. Make sure the people can clearly see or read the design and texts that will be put into it, I used both cartolina and construction papers and sticker paper to create the elements in my banner.

FREE Brown & Yellow Polka Dots and Stripes Digital Papers

You can also combine plain paper with pattern papers for fun and variety. Check out the links below for some FREE download and printable digital papers in yellow and brown that you can use in this DIY. Use them as paper for your letterings and numbers or any other element in your banner.

SUNFLOWER AND BIRTHDAY ELEMENT CLIPARTS FOR YOUR BANNER

Come up with your own design for your sunflower theme paper tarpaulin banner that you have in mind. The sunflowers on my banner were all made by hand using round objects and drawn petal patterns glued all around the circles to create the flower.

EASY CUT LETTERS AND NUMBERS FOR YOUR BANNER

For the lettering and numbers, I used letter and numbers template, Click Here To Check Out FREE Printable Easy Cut Letters and Numbers Template. Print letters and numbers template to trace on any paper of choice or print them directly on the paper you will use to cut immediately. I use the color blue for the number 8 and name letters to highlight them and to add a contrasting color from the mostly color brown lettering and numbers in the banner.

PUTTING YOUR DIY PAPER TARPAULIN BANNER TOGETHER

You can use any color combinations you like for the background of your banner, I used yellow and white and add a thin blue border at the top and bottom edges of the white background paper. I use solid glue stick in sticking my banner elements onto the background, this way the glue is dry and will not create a messy or wet effect on the paper. I spread the glue evenly and properly to make sure the paper will truly and neatly stick together. Before gluing the elements into the banner, I estimate how I would put them altogether to make sure they would all fit in properly especially the letters then I glue them one by one onto the banner background.

To spice up the background of the banner, I added falling sunflower petals and some dots of brown and blue construction papers as confetti effect. Combine sunflowers, some nature & garden elements such as butterfly, bee, ladybug, etc. and some birthday elements such as birthday cake, balloons, buntings, confetti etc., Click Here To Check Out Birthday Clipart Set from freepik.com. Print them on a matte sticker paper or on a bond paper, cut and stick them or use solid glue stick for elements printed on plain paper. HOW TO DISPLAY YOUR DIY PAPER TARPAULIN BANNER

You can display this banner in any way by hanging it up (sew a white thread through the top sides of the paper banner), pinning, or taping it depending on where you will post it. Try creating your own version of a sunflower or any theme of your choice paper birthday tarpaulin banner tailored to the theme of your child's birthday. For that personal and unique birthday banner that is not seen or is the same as anyone else.
