Seasons Craft: Autumn Tree Out Of Shapes | Home Learning Art & Craft Project Activity
In this post, I will be sharing an "autumn" craft. This was a craft project that Lauren did in Brightly Beaming Resources' (Step 3: Sound of the Week) home school curriculum for the "au" sound as in "autumn", Click Here To Find Out Why We Are Doing Homeschooling. There is no Autumn season in the Philippines but we love to be able to explore and learn about different seasons in other places or countries.

I thought about ways how we can do an autumn craft and came up with this idea of making an autumn tree with leaves out of different shapes such as diamond, oval, heart, and circle, branches made out of yarns and trunk out of craft sticks.
READY FOR KID BEFORE STARTING ACTIVITY ALONG WITH OTHER MATERIALS
* cut various shapes (for leaves of tree)
* cut various shapes (for leaves of tree)
* brown colored craft sticks or plain craft sticks colored with brown crayon or oil pastel colors
DONE BY ADULT OR PARENT
* PAPER BACKGROUND: Let child choose a construction paper to be used as background of their autumn tree. They can choose any color aside from what is shown.
* LEAVES: Allow child to choose at least 3 shapes they want to use as leaves for their autumn tree. Cut different shapes of choice such as oval, diamond, heart, circle, rectangles, triangle, etc. Fold each construction paper to be used several times to create multiple sections in it. Trace shape pattern on top of folded paper, cut pattern to reveal many shapes in one cutting.
DONE BY CHILD
* glue craft sticks on paper to create trunk
* glue yarn to create branches
* glue shapes on paper
* Add/draw details on shapes
STEPS IN CREATING THIS AUTUMN CRAFT
STEP #1: Let child glue the three brown craft sticks side by side together using white glue on a construction paper to create the trunk.
STEP #2: Next, it's time to create the branches, let child make a pattern branch using white glue or lightly draw some branches using a pencil and allow the child to just trace the pattern with a white glue. Cut strands of brown yarns and let child glue yarns following the glue drawn pattern. They can glue 2 or 3 yarns side by side together to create one branch, do the same process as the first one until all branches are created.
STEP #3: Once the branches are created, it's now time to glue the different shapes of leaves one by one onto the branches until a whole tree is created.
STEP#4: Next, let child add some details on the leaves using different colors of coloring markers.
And there goes your "shapes autumn tree", below is Lauren's finished project, get the kids creating their own version of this autumn craft today!
