Bookmark Craft: Personalized Paper Bookmark | Home Learning Art & Craft Project Activity

In this post, I will be sharing a "bookmark" craft. This was a craft project that Lauren did in Brightly Beaming Resources' (Step 3: Sound of the Week) home school curriculum for the short vowel combination "oo" sound as in "book", Click Here To Find Out Why We Are Doing Homeschooling. 

Updated Version, Paper Bookmark Craft 2025

In the original craft, I took some bookmark templates and printed them on a white folder. Lauren drew and color the details on the template then glued 2 of her cutout pictures as heads on top. She wrote some personal messages on a separate small piece of construction paper and glued them in the middle of the bookmark body. READY FOR KID BEFORE STARTING ACTIVITY ALONG WITH OTHER MATERIALS

* cutout pictures 

* cut bookmark template 

* cut out inspiring messages or quotes

DONE BY ADULT OR PARENT

* BOOKMARK BODY: For the updated version, I use a FREE printable bookmark template, Click Here To Check Out Blank Bookmark Templates. You can create a big bookmark or a smaller one whichever you like or prefer. I made a smaller one by scaling the size of the actual template to "75" in the printing settings. Print bookmark template on a heavy weight paper (such as cardstock, vellum board or specialty board). You can use white or light colored paper, I used light gray and light purple for my sample bookmark.


Pattern Coloring Pages Printed On Blank Bookmark Template

After printing the bookmark template, re-insert it into the printer and print "pattern coloring pages" on the paper that kids can color later to create the bookmark backgrounds. Check out the links below for some FREE download and printable pattern coloring pages in various designs (such as mermaid scales, dots, waves, detailed leaf, and many more). Choose any pattern you like as background for your bookmark(s).

* BOOKMARK PICTURES: Choose any picture you like and print it on a white heavy weight paper (such as cardstock, vellum board or specialty board), make sure the picture to be printed is adjusted to fit the size of the bookmark body it will be glued onto. Insert picture into MSWord document and drag the picture scale to adjust to desired size.

* BOOKMARK QUOTES & MESSAGES: I used short inspiring and positive messages, choose anything you like about self, reading, education or positivity to glue as added message on your bookmark. Click Here To Check Out Round Inspiring Quotes Printable I put together for you to cut out. This size fits best when the suggested bookmark template I shared above is scaled and printed at size "75". 


Check out the links below for some other FREE Download Short Inspiring & Positive Quotes in other shapes such as square, rectangle, etc. I also used this one right here for my sample. The image without the "crown" icon on it is FREE to download. You can also try writing your own quote by hand, check out some FREE download blank memo note graphics below.





After downloading, locate the image in the folder of the downloaded file, copy and paste the image on a separate location outside the downloaded file folder. Right-click on image and click "print" in the pop-up that appears. In the printing settings on the right side thumbnails, choose the (13 x 18 cm) and uncheck the "fit to picture frame box" below then click "print". This size fits best with the suggested bookmark template scaled at "75", if you printed the bookmark template without scaling it you can print the quote image by choosing the thumbnail "full page photo" in the printing settings then uncheck the "fit to picture frame" box below before printing.

STEPS IN DOING THIS BOOKMARK CRAFT

STEP #1: Let child color the patterns on the bookmark using any coloring material (such as crayons, coloring markers, colored ballpens, coloring pencils).


STEP #2: Next, let child glue the cut out pictures anywhere they like on the bookmark (example: on top or within the bookmark, etc.) using solid glue stick. Before gluing, they can create a border around the sides of the picture by gluing the cutout picture to a separate paper in any color of choice then cut the pictures again leaving an extra border on the edges as seen in the sample below.


STEP #3: After gluing the pictures, let child choose any quote or message they like and glue it on the bookmark using solid glue stick. You may cut your finished bookmark if  there's an extra space below after the glued quote or message to balance and shorten it, this is especially if the picture is glued on top of the bookmark. Your easy, simple but fun and colorful "personalized paper bookmark" is DONE, you may laminate them if you wish. Use it to bookmark a spot in books or notebooks, get the kids creating their own paper bookmark today!

* printer * bookmark template (see link to printable above) * white & light colored heavy weight paper (cardstock, vellum board or specialty board * printed personal picture(s) * scissors * coloring materials (crayons, coloring markers, colored ballpens, or coloring pencils) * solid glue stick

Print FREE printables for home DIYs and more! I'm using "HP Ink Tank 115" single function inkjet printer in printing templates and printables, I bought it online at shopee.ph. It is a quality and low-cost printer for home printing that uses tank for the ink.

It needs a total of 4 ink bottles (CMYK) to refill the tank, you can save even more by refilling with universal ink. Just make sure the ink is compatible with the printer model before deciding on a purchase.
