Zombie Toss: Create A Plants VS Zombies Inspired Halloween Game + Links to FREE Printables!

This year, for some fun this Halloween season, I made this game that me and Lauren played inspired and involving characters from the popular tower defense game "Plants VS Zombies". I call this game "zombie toss", I use a small empty cardboard box to create a zombie head that will be used to toss onto the plant characters. I used small disposable cups as stand of the plant characters. The cups hold prizes inside them that anyone can get from knocking down any of the plant characters. Animal Craft: Empty Box & Disposable Cup Chicken | Home Learning Art & Craft Activity

In this post, I will be sharing a "chicken" craft. This is a craft project that Lauren did in Brightly Beaming Resources' (Step 3: Sound of the Week) home school curriculum for the "ch" sound as in "chicken". I thought about doing our chicken using an empty medium sized rectangular box for the body and disposable cup for the head.

READY FOR KID BEFORE STARTING ACTIVITY ALONG WITH OTHER MATERIALS

* inverted empty box, if you are using a printed box, taped back together using white masking tape, skip process if you are using a plain cardboard box

* disposable cup with mouth cut in zig zag pattern (for chicken head)

* a cut on bottom part of paper cup (to insert chicken comb)

* cut beak, wattle, and comb patterns

* cut wing patterns

* cut crepe papers (for chicken tail)

DONE BY ADULT OR PARENT

CHICKEN BODY: Take a medium sized rectangular box, depending on the type of box you will be using, if it's the type of box that is printed, you can invert this box to reveal the cardboard material underneath and just tape it back again using a white masking tape. If you are using a box with a plain cardboard type material, you can skip this process.

CHICKEN WINGS: Take an empty box cardboard and draw some wing patterns on it, make sure the size of the wings are enough or can fit the size of the box you are using for the chicken body.

CHICKEN HEAD: Take a styrofoam disposable cup and cut a zig zag pattern around the cup's mouth. Also make a cut along the middle bottom of the cup using a utility knife, just enough that the child can later insert and glue the chicken comb pattern into it.

CHICKEN BEAK, WATTLE, & COMB: Take some construction papers and draw the beak, wattle and comb patterns on it. Another way of doing a chicken beak is by creating a small cone for it. Trace a round object on a chosen construction paper, cut pattern and roll to create a cone. Cut edge to make it even and flat.

CHICKEN TAIL: Take some crepe papers in color of choice. Cut thin strips for the chicken tail.

DONE BY CHILD

* paint box

* cut wings, beak, wattle and comb patterns

* draw details on wings

* glue chicken parts
pieces together

STEPS IN DOING THIS CHICKEN CRAFT

STEP #1: Let child paint the box with any color of their choice aside from what is shown.

STEP #2: Next, let child paint the wings pattern and the disposable cup head in any color of choice. Set aside and let all  painted pieces dry.

STEP #3: When all the painted pieces are dry, let child glue the wings to the side of the box, they can draw some details on the wings using a black pentel pen marker.

STEP #4: Next, let child work on the face of the chicken. First, let child glue the beak pattern on top of the wattle pattern. If you choose to make a cone-type beak, first glue the wattle pattern on the cup then glue the cone beak above it using hot glue. Put hot glue on the spot and assist the child to glue the cone beak on it.

STEP #5: After gluing the wattle and beak on the cup, let child glue the googly eyes above the beak then the comb on top of the cup by inserting it into the cut that was made earlier. You may get creative with eyes and use colored or any type of googly eyes for it if you like.

STEP #6: Once the chicken head is all done, it's now time to glue it on one end of the box. Let child glue it using hot glue. Put hot glue on the spot and direct the child to glue the chicken head on it.

STEP #7: Finally, it's time to attach the tail feathers. Let child glue the crepe papers one by one on the other end of the box in line with the head. After gluing, let child seal the crepe papers with scotch tape to secure them properly in place.

And there goes your "empty box & paper cup chicken", we put our chicken on the grass outdoors with some eggs on the side (as you can see in the picture above). Get the kids creating their own version today!
