Zombie Toss: Create A Plants VS Zombies Inspired Halloween Game + Links to FREE Printables!

This year, for some fun this Halloween season, I made this game that me and Lauren played inspired and involving characters from the popular tower defense game "Plants VS Zombies". I call this game "zombie toss", I use a small empty cardboard box to create a zombie head that will be used to toss onto the plant characters. I used small disposable cups as stand of the plant characters. The cups hold prizes inside them that anyone can get from knocking down any of the plant characters. Animal Craft: Empty Plastic Bottle Hedgehog | Home Learning Art & Craft Project Activity

In this post, I will be sharing a "hedgehog" craft. This was a craft project that Lauren did in Brightly Beaming Resources' (Step 3: Sound of the Week) home school curriculum for the "dge" sound as in "hedgehog". I have kept a lot of these empty plastic bottles so I thought about doing our hedgehog using this material.

I wrapped the bottle with white masking tape so Lauren can easily paint it. The opening of the bottle was stuffed with black construction paper to create the nose and the spikes on its body was made by cutting thin triangular patterns on different colors of construction papers, which was then glued by layers all around the bottle.

READY FOR KID BEFORE STARTING ACTIVITY ALONG WITH OTHER MATERIALS

* Empty plastic bottle wrapped with white masking tape

* Cut on sides of the bottle where to insert the hedgehog ears

* Cut and glued ear patterns

* Cut spike patterns

* Crumpled (1/8 size) pieces of dark colored construction papers for hedgehog nose

* Cut craft sticks for hedgehog body balance

DONE BY ADULT OR PARENT

NOTE: This craft is a collaboration between parent or caregiver and child and is suitable for kids about 6 and above, you may adapt the process to the skill or ability of the child.

HEDGEHOG EARS: Trace a big coin and then another smaller coin on different colors of construction papers of choice.

HEDGEHOG SPIKES: Cut in half, 3 to 4 different colors of construction papers of choice. Next draw a series of thin triangular spike patterns on the folded paper.

DONE BY CHILD

* Crumple 1/8 size dark colored papers into a ball for hedgehog nose

* Cut spike patterns

* Paint | Decorate hedgehog body

* Glue hedgehog balance underneath body

STEPS IN DOING THIS HEDGEHOG CRAFT

STEP #1: Let child paint bottle with color or shade of choice, try looking at hedgehog clip arts for color ideas. After painting the whole bottle, let child paint the nose area with a different shade than the rest of the hedgehog body. Set aside and let paint dry for a couple of minutes.

STEP #2: Once painted bottle is dry, let child insert the ears onto the cut that was made on the bottle earlier.

STEP #3: Next, let child glue googly eyes using hot glue. Put hot glue on the spot and guide the child to glue eyes on it. You may get creative with the eyes and use different colors or types of googly eyes if you want. After gluing eyes, let child insert ball of nose into the bottle mouth opening.

STEP #4: Afterwards, let child glue the spike patterns alternating between different colors and creating a layer of spikes on the body of their hedgehog using liquid glue.

STEP #5: Finally, let child glue craft sticks underneath the hedgehog body to make hedgehog have some balance when displayed on a flat surface. Let child glue craft stick horizontally in the middle and bottom part of the body. Add hot glue on the spot and guide child to glue craft stick on it.
