Zombie Toss: Create A Plants VS Zombies Inspired Halloween Game + Links to FREE Printables!

This year, for some fun this Halloween season, I made this game that me and Lauren played inspired and involving characters from the popular tower defense game "Plants VS Zombies". I call this game "zombie toss", I use a small empty cardboard box to create a zombie head that will be used to toss onto the plant characters. I used small disposable cups as stand of the plant characters. The cups hold prizes inside them that anyone can get from knocking down any of the plant characters. HOW TO PRINT THE CHARACTER PRINTABLE TEMPLATES:

STEP #1: Click on any of the links above to check out and download your chosen character template.

STEP #2: In the template page, scroll down for the purple "download" button. Choose the "regular" template in "A4 paper size".

STEP #3: After download, open the PDF file and click on the "printer" icon to open the printing dialog box.

STEP #4: Scroll down to the "scale" settings and type "65" in the box then click on "print"

STEP #5: Cut the character's head, hair, head accessories (if any), and the arms. Discard all the other parts and pieces.

STEP #6: Glue the hair and head accessories (if any) onto the head to complete it. This will be glued later to the cup body.

CREATING THE CUP BODY + FREE PRINTABLE PUMPKIN LABELS

There is no need to glue anything to cover the cup's body, we will just place a piece of paper into the big cup then place the smaller cup inside the big cup to hold the piece of paper in place and give the whole cup color and shade.

We will add a pumpkin label on the cup body, I have put together a set of pumpkin labels that you can print and use for your DIY (as you can see in the image below). They work well with the recommended size of disposable cups to be used in this DIY. Click Here To Check Out The Printable Pumpkin Labels. Make sure the printing settings are as follows: "paper size" A4 ; "scale (%)" fit to printable area.

We will be attaching a cloak to the characters, Click Here To Check Out Printable Cloak Pattern I made. Cut the pattern and use it as a tracing guide to create several cloaks (if you are making more than 2 characters) on any construction paper of choice. Make sure the printing settings are as follows: "paper size" A4 ; in the "scale" settings type "75" to make the size of the cloak just right with the disposable cups we are using.

CREATING THE CUP COVER + LINKS TO FREE PRINTABLE HALLOWEEN PATTERN PAPERS

To cover the treat holder, we will simply trace the mouth of the bigger disposable cup on a pattern paper or you may use wrapping paper in Halloween colors. The pattern or wrapping paper doesn't necessarily need to be in a Halloween print, even one in ordinary patterns such as stripes, dots, etc. as long they are in Halloween colors will do.

If you can't find any pattern papers near you, check out these FREE printable Halloween digital papers by clicking on the links below, they are perfect for use in all kinds of Halloween DIYs.

* "Halloween Basics FREE Digital Paper Pack" by Printable Cuttable Creatables

After peeling off the cover of the treat holder, your kids can just take off the smaller cup inside to reveal and easily take all of the treats.

HOW TO EASILY CREATE YOUR DISPOSABLE CUP HALLOWEEN TREAT HOLDER

STEP #1: Prepare big (about 7 oz) and smaller (about 6 oz) clear disposable cups. Prepare the round cover patterns for the cups, print & cut cloak pattern then trace it on any construction paper of choice. Print the pumpkin labels, and any chosen character templates by clicking on the links shared above. Cut the cover patterns, cloaks, pumpkin labels, character head, hair, head accessories (if any) and arms. Glue character head pieces and parts together to complete it. Set aside.

STEP #2: Next, prepare and create the cup body. First, create a rectangular pattern to be used as a tracing guide on a bond paper. Make a small mark with pencil on both ends of the big disposable cup on the bond paper then create a long rectangular pattern using the marks as a guide by drawing a line using a ruler. Cut the pattern and trace on any construction paper of choice, place colored paper inside the big cup, then place smaller cup inside the big cup to hold the paper in place. Cut any excess on the sides.

STEP #3: Construct your treat holder by gluing the character head at the top of the cup using hot glue. Next put a small amount of hot glue at the back of the pumpkin label then stick on the middle of the cup body.

STEP #4: Next, put hot glue at the back of each arm and glue to the sides of the pumpkin label like they are holding it. Then, add hot glue at the top and upper sides of the cloak pattern and stick just below the head of the character.

STEP #5: Fill the cup with some treats then spread some dry glue around the edges of the round paper cover, put on top of cup's mouth to seal it.

GET A LOW-COST AND QUALITY PRINTER FOR HOME PRINTING

I'm using "HP Ink Tank 115" single function inkjet printer in printing the sample printables in this DIY. I bought it online at shopee.ph. It is a quality and low-cost printer for home printing that uses tank for the ink. It needs a total of 4 ink bottles (CMYK) to refill the tank, you can save even more by refilling with universal ink. Just make sure the ink is compatible with the printer model before deciding on a purchase.
