Zombie Toss: Create A Plants VS Zombies Inspired Halloween Game + Links to FREE Printables!

This year, for some fun this Halloween season, I made this game that me and Lauren played inspired and involving characters from the popular tower defense game "Plants VS Zombies". I call this game "zombie toss", I use a small empty cardboard box to create a zombie head that will be used to toss onto the plant characters. I used small disposable cups as stand of the plant characters. The cups hold prizes inside them that anyone can get from knocking down any of the plant characters. Spring Craft | Easter Craft: Easter Egg Bunnies Craft Review + Link To FREE Resources

This was an art project that Lauren did in Brightly Beaming Resources' (Step 2: Letter of the Week) homeschool curriculum for the long "e" sound as in "eraser" or easter. Since, this activity was done around Easter time, I decided Lauren create some Easter eggs as art project. I did a search for some ideas on how to make and decorate one, this is something we've never done before as egg decorating is something not commonly done here in our country (Philippines) so I think it would be nice to learn and try it.

I saw several ways of decorating and doing designs on Easter eggs but I chose this colorful "Easter Egg Bunnies" craft (as seen in the sample image below), I cannot find the original website anymore but as I remember they didn't have the detailed steps and materials for this craft from its website of origin but I'll be sharing here how we did our own Easter Egg Bunnies and some other ways you can do to easily create your own version of this cute Easter Egg craft!

CREATING THE BUNNY EARS

For the ears, I use a letter "V" template and trace it on different colors of gingham pattern paper or you may use any design of pattern paper you have available, just glue pattern paper to a sturdier box cardboard or you can use printable digital pattern papers and print it directly on a heavy weight paper. You could also just draw small rabbit ears in any style you wish.

DYEING THE EGGS

We used powder food coloring in Egg Yellow, Avocado Green, and Strawberry Red for dying our eggs. We had similar colors as in the example but you can choose your own colors according to your preference to come up with your own look for your egg bunnies aside from what is created in the sample. If this is your first time to create colored eggs like us, Click Here For Steps On Dyeing Easter Eggs, you can use powder or liquid food coloring.

DIY BUNNY EGG STANDS

Glue your bunny eggs onto something for easy display, you could come up with or use anything you can find around the house that will work as stands for your bunny eggs. Glue the eggs onto their stands using hot melt glue. Here, we use the cups of empty egg containers, Lauren painted them with acrylic paints. I'm glad that the egg containers worked as stands for our egg bunnies!

CREATING THE BUNNY DETAILS  |  DECORATING

I lightly draw eyes, nose, mouth and the other details on the egg with pencil and Lauren just traced them with acrylic paint using a small paint brush we have, it worked but you need the very tiny or miniature detail type paintbrush here to successfully create the details on the bunnies like in the sample but if you don't have those tiny paint brush, you can try other things like sharpie markers instead to draw the eyes, nose, and mouth or maybe use some tiny gem stickers or sequins for the extra embellishments to decorate your bunny.

THE FINISHED PROJECT

Below are Lauren's finished "Easter Egg Bunnies", Lauren made a mistake, she should have painted the bunny face (eyes, nose, mouth) details with the pointed part of the egg as the top head but nevertheless, the bunnies came out fun and it was great to have tried this activity, me and Lauren both learned something about coloring, decorating and designing Easter eggs that we've never known before.

Easter Egg decorating was definitely a fun experience and activity for Lauren and me. If you haven't done one before, try doing it this Easter. We hope to be able to do this again next time and also try some other ways of decorating and getting creative with Easter eggs!
