Fun Huge Paper Dolls | Home Learning Art & Craft Project Activity

In this post, I am going to share a paper doll craft. This was an art project that Lauren did in Brightly Beaming Resources' (Step 2: Letter of the Week) homeschool curriculum for the "p" sound as in "paper"Click Here To Find Out Why We Are Doing HomeschoolingI found this version of making a paper doll that's different from the usual small sized paper dolls as this version is large and the base is made of jumbo craft sticks,  I recently updated this post and cannot find the link to the page of the original craft.

Below I share the steps on how to make your own version of this huge paper doll craft. They used plain jumbo craft sticks in the original craft, since I can't find any plain jumbo craft sticks in the store, I just bought the colored ones instead. So we made it look like the colored sticks for the arm are like the long sleeves of the dress and the colored sticks for the legs are like the leggings of the dolls. Lauren made 3 kinds of dolls: AfricanAsian, and Caucasian dolls. Try creating your version of this fun huge paper dolls.

READY FOR KID BEFORE STARTING ACTIVITY ALONG WITH OTHER MATERIALS:

* glued jumbo crafts sticks doll base structure (arms, legs, and holder)

* round head pattern

* clothes pattern

* hand and shoe patterns

* extra doll accessories (such as bows, gem stickers or sequins)

DONE BY ADULT OR PARENT:

* DOLL BODY & HOLDER: Glue together jumbo craft sticks (plain or colored), if you are using colored jumbo crafts sticks, choose any color you like and glue about 3 to 4  jumbo crafts sticks together using hot melt glue to create a long stick that will serve as the middle body and holder of the doll. Next glue jumbo crafts sticks on each side (middle and another one towards the bottom part) of the long middle base stick to create arms and legs structure.

* DOLL FEET & HANDS: Print a hand template, Click Here To Check Out Free Download Hand Template. Scale in the printing settings to reduce to size that fits best with your paper doll, cut and trace on construction paper of choice.

* DOLL HEAD OR FACE: Take a round plate and trace on a skin stone colored construction paper of choice. We used dark brown, light orange, and light yellow construction paper to skin dolls in various skin tones.

* DOLL DRESS OR CLOTHES: Depending on what kind of doll your child will make (whether boy or girl), draw patterns of clothes on construction papers in any color of choice. You can draw large simple shapes such as rectangles, squares, etc. to create clothes pattern.

DONE BY CHILD:

* cut head pattern

* cut hand and shoe pattern

* cut clothes pattern

* glue doll parts

* add and draw doll details

STEPS IN DOING THIS HUGE PAPER DOLL CRAFT:

Step #1: Let child glue the head or face pattern on the clothes pattern using solid glue stick. Next attach the head and clothes pattern onto the body stick structure, add the hands pattern on the arms and the shoe on the legs using solid glue stick.

STEP #2: Next, create the hair of the doll. Cut strands of yarn in various lengths in any color of choice and let child glue on the front top and back side of the paper doll using white glue. Attach any accessories you like such as unused hair bows for a girl paper doll using hot melt glue with adult supervision.

STEP #3: Let child draw face details such as eyes, nose, mouth, etc., patterns on clothes and fingers and shoes details. Next, let child trace the drawn details on the paper doll's face and clothes with coloring markers and color the drawings with crayons or oil pastel colors.

STEP #4: Add additional details on clothes by gluing in sequins in various shapes or stick any gem stickers of choice. And your "huge paper doll" is done!

Above are Lauren's finished paper dolls. I think this is really a cute and fun paper doll craft activity for kids of all ages, the kids can have fun playing with it afterwards as it is huge and they can easily hold it in their hands with the stick holder in the middle.
