Making A Spiral Snake | Home Learning Art & Craft Project Activity

This was an art project that Lauren did in Brightly Beaming Resources' (Step 2: Letter of the Week) home school curriculum for the "s" sound as in "snake", Click Here To Find Out Why We Are Doing Homeschooling. I found this snake art called "Spiral Snake" from artprojectsforkids.org, I have recently looked for the original page where I found this art project and it's already unavailable but I did found their template at pinterest, check out the template here

There are several versions of this coiled or spiral snake art projects out there but this version has a "snake pattern" that is easy to cut with wide sections in them that the kids can easily paint as well as draw designs or patterns on. Lauren used poster paints to paint her "snake pattern", I printed 3 patterns to be painted with 3 types of different color combinations for variety.

CREATING A FUN AND COLORFUL SPIRAL SNAKE

You can print several copies of the spiral snake pattern and your child can get creative with several snakes in various colors and patterns. Print snake pattern on a heavy weight paper such as vellum board, specialty board or any paper of similar texture,
check out the spiral snake template here

When the paint has dried, I lightly draw various patterns (circles, waves, zig zag, etc.) in each sections and Lauren traced them with black pentel pen marker. You can also try and draw other patterns you like aside from what is seen here, next let child draw two dots of eyes on the snakes head using a black marker.

HANGING YOUR SPIRAL SNAKES

After tracing the patterns on the snake, Lauren cut the spiral snake template. To finish the snake, I cut a small piece of red construction paper resembling a snake's tongue. Lauren glue it towards the end of the snake head then I sew a white thread from the other side of the snake head to the top to be able to hang and display Lauren's finished spiral snakes.

Hang your fun and colorful spiral snakes anywhere you wish as a decoration outdoors or in any room indoors too. See it spin around when it gets hit by wind or air
(as you can see in the video below).
