Royalty Craft: Disposable Cup Queen | Home Learning Art & Craft Project Activity
This was an art project that Lauren did in Brightly Beaming Resources' (Step 2: Letter of the Week) home school curriculum for the "q" sound as in "queen", Click Here To Find Out Why We Are Doing Homeschooling. I found this "Disposaple Cup Crafts" joining 2 disposable cups together to create royalty characters (king and queen). I think it would be nice to give this method a try for our queen craft.
GETTING CREATIVE WITH YOUR OWN DISPOSABLE CUP QUEEN
We have never done anything like it, we did made disposable cup dolls before using styro cups for the body and styrofoam balls for the head but this one is different as it uses 2 paper cups both for the crown, head, and body (as you can see in the sample picture below).
I also found this "Paper Cup Royalty" craft (as seen in the photo below). We actually combine the outcome of our queen craft from both of these crafts (disposable cup craft & paper cup royalty craft). In the original craft using 2 disposable cups, you will make a cut in the crown part of the cup to insert some paper hair using construction paper. Instead of construction paper, we use yarn for the hair of our queens. The hair and clothes idea for our queens was from this royalty craft (below).
PAINTING THE DISPOSABLE CUPS
Following the "Disposable Cup Craft" method to create your queen character, you will use 2 disposable cups for the head and body. For the head of your character, cut the mouth part of one disposable cup in a zig zag pattern to resemble a crown. We used poster paint to color our cups, I mixed white and orange to create a skin tone color for the face part and mixed yellow with a bit of brown and white (creating a gold tone) for the crown part.
I lightly draw a line as a guide where to end painting the crown. When the paint has dried, Lauren also brush in gold glitter glue on the crown part to make them appear somewhat shiny and sparkly.
CREATING YOUR DISPOSABLE CUP QUEEN
I lightly draw the design of the clothes using pencil on the arm patterns and on the disposable cup body. You can also allow your child to do it if they can. Lauren created the clothes following the pencil patterns on the disposable cup using different poster paint colors.
As the paint dries, she used glitter glues and sequins as added details on clothes and some sequins as details on the crowns. It's also a good idea to put the sequins at each pointed tip of the crown. Below are Lauren's finished "Paper Cup Queens", get creative with your queen, princess or king characters today using disposable cups!
HOW TO MAKE DISPOSABLE CUP QUEEN
I've recently checked the website where I found this "Disposable Cup Craft" and the website is not anymore available. If you want to try this kind of craft using 2 disposable cups to create any character such as: king, queen or even princess, check out the information below:
STEP #1: Take 2 disposable cups, cut the mouth of 1 disposable cup into a zig zag resembling a crown. This will be the head of your royal character. If you want to use construction papers for the hair of your character, create a slit in front or at the back part just below the crown area of the cup using utility knife. Cut a piece of construction paper in any color of choice and cut in a fringe for the hair of your character.
STEP #2: Take a piece of sturdy paper or empty cardboard box and create the arms of your character, which will be glued later to the sides of the other disposable cup which is the body of your character.
STEP #3: Create the clothes of character, you can use construction papers or paint it using poster or acrylic paint. If you chose to paint it, lightly draw the design of your clothes using pencil and later paint it with any colors of choice using paint.
STEP #4: Paint the cups using poster or acrylic paints. Use gold paint for the crown part and skin tone colors for the face part of your character.
STEP #5: When the paint is dry, glue the end of one cup which is the head to the end of the other cup which is the body using hot melt glue. Insert some paper hair into the slit made under the crown part earlier, decorate the crown and clothes using sequins or gem stickers and draw details on the face such as eyes, nose and mouth using coloring markers.
STEP #6: Glue the arms on the sides of the cup body using hot melt glue.
MATERIALS FOR THIS CRAFT:
