Paper Cup Queen

12-17-2015 -- This was an art project that Lauren did in Brightly Beaming Resources' (Step 2: Letter of the Week) home school curriculum for the "q" sound as in "quail", she is going to make a "queen" craft. I searched for some queen crafts for kids and found this "Disposaple Cup Crafts" joining 2 disposable cups together to create royalty characters (king and queen). I think it would be nice to give this method a try for our queen craft.

We have never done anything like it, Lauren made these paper cup dolls before using paper cups for the body and styrofoam balls for the head. This one is different as it uses 2 paper cups both for the crown, head, and body (as you can see in the sample picture below). It's good because we have lots of unused paper cups in the cabinet as well.

I also found this cute and nice "Paper Cup Royalty" craft (as you can see the photo below) using styrofoam balls and paper cups. I actually combine the outcome of our craft from both of these crafts. Instead of construction paper, we use yarn for the hair. The hair and clothes idea of our queens was from this craft (below). Lauren made 2 kinds of queens.

Lauren painted the paper cups with poster colors. I mixed white and orange for the face part and yellow with a bit of brown and white (to make it look gold) for the crown part. I lightly draw a line as a guide where to end painting the crown. Lauren also brush in gold glitter glue on the crown part to make them appear somewhat shiny and sparkly.

I lightly draw the clothes pattern on the arm patterns and cup body, Lauren painted them following the guide. She used glitter glues and sequins as added designs on clothes and some sequins as designs on the crowns. It's also a good idea to put the sequins at each pointed tip of the crown.

Below, are Lauren's completed "Paper Cup Queens" (as you can see the photo below). I think this version of using 2 disposable cups as a crown, head, and body altogether is a good idea to make any doll crafts for the kids. The dolls are definitely cute and fun to look at. These paper cup queens could also make fun characters to use in staging or telling a queen story for the kids.

If you're looking for a convenient method to create royalty paper cup dolls such as queen, king or princess, you should try this version of "Disposaple Cup Crafts".
