Zombie Toss: Create A Plants VS Zombies Inspired Halloween Game + Links to FREE Printables!

This year, for some fun this Halloween season, I made this game that me and Lauren played inspired and involving characters from the popular tower defense game "Plants VS Zombies". I call this game "zombie toss", I use a small empty cardboard box to create a zombie head that will be used to toss onto the plant characters. I used small disposable cups as stand of the plant characters. The cups hold prizes inside them that anyone can get from knocking down any of the plant characters. Island Theme: Island Craft | Island Out Of Styro Ball | Home Learning Art & Craft Project Activity

In this post, I will be sharing an "island" craft idea. This was a craft project that Lauren did in Brightly Beaming Resources' (Step 3: Sound of the Week) homeschool curriculum for the "nd" sound as in "island".

I thought about using a large foam ball that is cut in half to create an island mountain, coconut trees with craft stick trunks are inserted on top of the ball, then the ball is glued onto a board painted with blue paint for the ocean around it.

READY FOR KID BEFORE STARTING ACTIVITY ALONG WITH OTHER MATERIALS

* foam ball cut in half

* illustration board or cardboard cut in oval shape

* cut palm leaf patterns

* cut coconut fruit patterns

* cut grass patterns

* cut waves pattern

* cut island accessories (sea shells, rocks, etc.)

DONE BY ADULT OR PARENT

NOTE: This craft is a collaboration between parent or caregiver and child and is suitable for kids about 7 and above, you may adapt the process to the skill or ability of the child. You may not finish the craft all at once in a day if you can't but you can work on it day by day or in a series of days until you can finish the whole project.

Island Mountain: Cut a large styrofoam ball in half using a knife or you may purchase half or hollow styro ball to skip the cutting.

Ocean: On a cardboard or 1/4 size illustration board, draw a large oval shape a bit larger than the foam ball.

Paper Waves: Draw wave patterns on blue construction papers.

Coconut Palm Leaves: Click Here To Check Out FREE Printable Palm Leaves Pattern w
e use. This template has 4 small, 2 medium, and 1 large palm leaf patterns. Take the small leaf pattern as this is the size that fits best when glued to a regular sized craft stick, cut one small leaf pattern and traced it on a dark green heavy weight paper. On a large sized foam ball you can insert about 3 or 4 regular craft sticks, you will need 5 palm leaves in 1 craft stick trunk.

Just multiply 5 palm leaves with the number of coconut trees your child will make (example: 3 craft sticks X 5 palm leaves for each craft stick = you will need 15 palm leaves for 3 craft sticks). To make and cut multiple leaf patterns at once, fold the green paper to be used. Make sure that the palm leaf pattern will fit just right in the folded paper when traced on top. Folding a paper 4 times will create 5 sections in it, trace small palm leaf pattern on top of the folded paper then cut to reveal several palm leaves in one cutting, repeat the process until you get your desired number of palm leaves to be used.

Coconut Fruits: Trace a small coin on a construction paper in any color of choice to create the fruit patterns. You may create any color of your coconut fruits aside from what is shown here.

Grass Accessory: Draw a grass pattern on a green construction paper.

Island Accessories: You may add details to be glued on your island mountain such as a person, some rocks, sea shells or a piece of star fish. Check out the links below for some FREE download island accessories you can use. You may scale (%) the size to fit your ball island in the printing settings. Glue starfish, seashells, or rocks on your island or stick some people or a person onto it by taping a toothpick from the back of the character then insert them onto your island.

STEPS IN DOING THIS ISLAND CRAFT

STEP #1: First, let child paint foam ball with any shade of brown similar to an actual sand color. Mix colored sand (in any shade similar to actual sand) with the paint or sprinkle some colored sand on the foam ball after painting to create a "sandy" effect on it once it dries.

STEP #2: Next, let child paint the oval cardboard with blue and the craft sticks with brown paint. Set the painted pieces aside to dry.

STEP #3: Then, let child draw details on the palm leaf patterns using a coloring marker.

STEP #4: Next, let child glue 5 pieces of palm leaves together then glue a craft stick on the middle to create the coconut tree. Afterwards, let child glue coconut fruits in the middle of the tree.

STEP #5: Once foam ball and oval cardboard are dry, let child glue foam ball in the middle of the oval cardboard. Trace ball bottom where it will be glued on the board, allow child to spread liquid glue below the ball and let child glue ball onto the board.

STEP #6: Next, let child insert the coconut trees onto the foam ball island.

STEP #7: Afterwards, let child glue the paper waves at bottom of the foam ball using liquid glue.

STEP #8: Next, let child tape a toothpick at the back of the grass patterns then insert grasses below coconut trees. Then allow child to glue some island details (such as rocks, sea shells, etc.) of choice anywhere on top of foam ball to complete the island.
