DONE BY ADULT OR PARENT
NOTE: This craft is a collaboration between parent or caregiver and child and is suitable for kids about 6 or 7 and above, you may adapt the process to the skill or ability of the child. You may not finish the project all at once in a day if you can't but you can work on it day by day or in a series of days until you can finish the whole project.
* BIRD BODY: You may create any size of bird aside from what is shown here. Depending on the size of the bird and number of birds your child is going to make in one paper, Take any round object (example: lid cover, etc.) of medium or large size and trace it on a white heavy weight paper (such as vellum board, specialty board, card stock, or any paper of similar texture).
* BIRD WINGS: Take a round object that is a bit bigger or smaller than the bird's body and trace it on a white heavy weight paper. Fold circle pattern in half then cut to create a half circle to be glued later as wings.
* BIRD TAIL: Add an extra bird tail for birds in a side view position. Draw a triangle pattern on a white heavy weight paper.
* BIRD EYE & BEAK: For the eyes, take a small coin and trace it on a construction paper in any color of choice. For the beak, draw a small triangle pattern on a construction paper.

STEPS IN DOING THIS BIRD ART
STEP #1: First, let child color the bird pieces (body, wings, & tail) with watercolor in any color of their choice. Set aside painted pieces to dry.
STEP #2: Next, let child add details to the eye circle patterns by drawing a black circle in the middle using a coloring marker. Once the painted pieces are dry, let child draw some designs of their choice on the body and wings patterns as well using a pencil.
Let child alternately draw designs on any of these pieces (example: leave body blank and draw designs on wings, etc.). After drawing, let child trace the details with coloring markers then color it with crayons.
STEP #3: Next, let child assemble the whole bird by gluing eyes, beak, wings, tails as well as hair pieces together onto the circle body.
STEP #4: Next, let child trace the details around eyes & beak using a black coloring marker to make them stand out even more.
STEP #5: Once the birds are all done. Let child create the background on any light colored construction paper of their choice. They may create any background of choice whether it will be birds flying in the sky or birds on a tree branch, etc. They may use a small piece of sponge or some sponge brushes to dub different colors in creating their background. Set aside background to dry.
STEP #6: Once the background paper is dry, let child glue the bird(s) on it and draw some bird legs using coloring marker. Next, let child trace edges or details of whole bird with black coloring marker to make the birds stand out and make it look like they are drawn and not glued onto the paper.
