Easy "Nutcracker" Themed Hanging Paper Wall Christmas Tree: Christmas DIY Using Simple & Recycled Materials + Links To FREE Resources!

Last year I tried making a paper "Wall Christmas Tree", I've seen a couple of wall Christmas Trees in the past but it was only last year that I finally go ahead and do one myself. I'm glad I went through with it, that tree ended up nice and for Christmas this year I decided to make another paper wall Christmas tree in a different style and theme with "Nutcracker" as its elements and decorations. Christmas Craft: Reindeer Theme | Reindeer Out Of Foam Balls

In this post, I will be sharing a "reindeer" craft. This was a craft project that Lauren did in Brightly Beaming Resources' (Step 3: Sound of the Week) home school curriculum for the "ei" sound as in "reindeer". I thought about ways how we can do our reindeer and have come up with this structure for our reindeer craft using foam balls for the head and body and craft sticks for the ears, arms, and legs.


READY FOR KID BEFORE STARTING ACTIVITY ALONG WITH OTHER MATERIALS

* cut and glued barbecue sticks resembling an antler or you may use small twigs from plants resembling an antler

* cut craft sticks for ears, arms and legs 

* sliced end of each foam balls (head and body)

DONE BY ADULT OR PARENT

* Reindeer Antler: Take barbecue sticks and cut them into small pieces, glue them together using hot glue resembling a reindeer's antler or you can try small twigs from plants as antlers like what we did with one previous reindeer craft here.

* Reindeer Ears & Arms: Cut a craft stick into small pieces just enough as ears and arms for a reindeer. 

* Reinder Head & Body: Slice a small portion of each 2 inch styrofoam balls to make them flat when they will be joined together as head and body. Next, lightly draw a round circle on one foam ball which will be used as the head on the area where the nose and mouth of the reindeer will be attached and also lightly draw a round circle in the middle of the other foam ball which will be used as the reindeer body.

Reindeer Scarf: Cut a small piece and thin strip of construction paper in any color of choice.

DONE BY CHILD

* paint craft stick ears and arms

* paint antler

* paint foam balls

* create scarf accessory

* put / glue reindeer parts together

STEPS IN DOING THIS REINDEER CRAFT

STEP #1: First, let child paint the foam balls, craft sticks, and antlers with brown poster paint. Guide them not to paint on the area with the lightly drawn circles. Set painted pieces aside to dry. 


STEP #2: When the painted pieces are all dry. Cut a small piece of barbecue stick and let child poke the stick in the middle of the sliced part of one foam ball. Next, put small dots of hot glue around the sides of the sliced portion of the other foam ball, then let child insert the foam ball with the stick onto the foam ball with hot glue to join them together.


STEP #3: Next, let child insert the craft stick ears into the side of the foam ball head. 


STEP #4: Then, let child insert the antler sticks in between the ears.



STEP #5: Next, let child insert the craft stick arms and legs on the side and below the foam ball body. They may leave arms and legs as it is or let child draw some hooves at the bottom using black pentel pen marker.


STEP #6: Next, let child glue a pom pom nose using liquid glue. Set aside for awhile for the glue to set properly.


STEP #7: Next, let child glue googly eyes using liquid glue. Set aside for awhile for the glue to set properly.


STEP #8: Leave as it is or add a small mouth by drawing using a coloring marker or by cutting a small strand of yarn in any color of choice to glue below pom pom nose. 


STEP #9: Next, add a scarf around the neck of the reindeer. Cut a piece of long rectangle on construction paper of choice, let child draw designs on it using coloring markers or crayons to create scarf. Next, let child glue scarf around neck of reindeer. They may add a small tassle hanging at the bottom of scarf by gluing small pieces of yarns using liquid glue.
