King Theme Craft | King Out Of Craft Sticks + Links To FREE Resources | Home Learning Art & Craft Project Activity

In this post, I will be sharing a "king" craft. This was a craft project that Lauren did in Brightly Beaming Resources' (Step 3: Sound of the Week) home school curriculum for the "ng" sound as in "king". I thought about doing our king using craft sticks, we used regular craft sticks for the crown and arms and jumbo crafts sticks for the body and feet. We used colorful construction papers for the king's clothing and some gem stickers for the details on the crown and clothes.

READY FOR KID BEFORE STARTING ACTIVITY ALONG WITH OTHER MATERIALS

* cut & glued regular craft sticks as crown

* cut jumbo craft stick for feet

* cut head, ears, eyes, nose, clothes (sleeves, belt and cape pattern)

DONE BY ADULT OR PARENT

NOTE: This craft is a collaboration between parent or caregiver and child and is suitable for kids about 6 and above, you may adapt the process to the skill or ability of the child. You may not finish the project all at once in a day if you can't but you can work on it day by day or in a series of days until you can finish the whole project.

King's Head: Take an empty box cardboard and an orange construction paper and trace a round object or lid cover on it. Choose a round object with a size just enough as a king's head. Choose a cardboard material with a thick texture, so the king's head won't bend when you lift it up with the craft stick crown on it.

King's Crown: Take 3 regular sized craft sticks for the body of the crown and cut the edges, just enough that will make them fit the size of the king's head. Also take another 5 pieces of regular sized craft sticks and make a cut on the edges, these will be glued as pieces sticking out on top of the crown. You may create any style of crowns aside from what is shown.

King's Body: Take 3 jumbo sized colored craft sticks, let child choose color to be used. Glue the sticks together using hot glue.

King's Eyes, Ears, Nose, Mouth: Trace some small round objects or coins on a construction paper for the eyes, ears, and nose of king and draw a mouth pattern on a construction paper.

King's Clothes: Create a sleeve, belt and cape patterns. Create any style of clothing for your king aside from what is shown. You may allow the child to decide or make choices. Draw patterns on different colors of construction papers or you may combine plain construction papers and pattern papers for your king's clothing.

Check out the links below for some FREE printable "black and white" digital papers. Print the black ones or print the white background with black patterns on any color of construction paper you like.

King's Feet or Shoes: Cut a jumbo craft stick, allow child to choose color. Cut sticks into a size just enough as feet for the king.

DONE BY CHILD

* Glue sticks for crown together

* Decorate crown

* Cut head, ears, eyes, nose, mouth and clothes patterns

* Glue craft stick body together

* Glue crown and king pieces together

* Draw/Add details on king or clothing

STEPS IN DOING THIS KING CRAFT

STEP #1: Let child glue the crown pieces together to create the crown. Put hot glue on the spot and assist child in gluing the pieces together. We only have plain regular craft sticks at the time Lauren did this project so she painted the crown with poster paint, to skip the painting process, you may use colored regular craft sticks.

STEP #2: Next, let child glue the 2 round head patterns of orange construction paper and cardboard toegether using dry liquid glue. We painted the round pattern of our king's head but you may glue 2 round patterns of cardboard and construction paper together instead for convenience. After completing the head, glue the crown on top of it using hot glue. Put hot glue on the spot and assist child to glue crown on the spot.

STEP #3: Next, let child decorate the crown with some gem stickers of their choice then glue the eyes and nose on the face.

STEP #4: Then, let child glue some thick brows on top of the king's eyes. Cut short strands of yarn, with color chosen by child. Put liquid glue on the spot and let child glue yarns to create king's eyebrows.

STEP #5: Next, let child glue the ears and some mustache and beard on the face of the king. Cut strands of yarns, put liquid glue on the spot and let child glue them on the spot. Next, you may glue a mouth below mustache if you like.

STEP #6: When the face is done, let child stick the jumbo craft stick body at the back of the head using hot glue. Next, cut strands of yarns with the same color as eyebrows, mustache and beard then let child glue the yarns at the back of the king's head to create the hair.

STEP #7: Next, let child glue the craft stick arm to the back of the sleeves pattern, afterwards let them glue the sleeves to the sides of the craft stick body and then the cape at the back using hot glue.

STEP #8: Next, let child tape a belt pattern in the middle of the body and they can maybe add some details to the king's clothing such as a piece of necklace using gem stickers or a shape sequin or any detail of their choice. Finally, let child glue the feet at the bottom of the craft stick body to complete the king.

And there goes your "CRAFT STICK KING". Below is our version of this craft, Lauren made the king in a green crown with red hair and beard, wearing an orange clothing and yellow cape and my king is the one in orange crown wearing red, yellow and black clothing with purple cape.
