Happy Easter! Here in the Philippines, the celebration of non-religious Easter traditions is not widely done or practiced such as decorating Easter eggs, doing Easter egg hunts, giving Easter gifts or baskets and treats or anything like that but this year, we give it a try for some added fun on Easter Sunday. Of course, Jesus is the main reason of Easter and nowadays many places and some people here do have Easter egg hunts and organize Bunny related Easter events for fun as part of celebrating the resurrection of Jesus. After a solemn week people here celebrate Easter, the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Here in our area during Holy Week many people look forward to do "way of the cross" and pray at 14 stations situated in this mountainous area going up to the top where a huge cross is found as a sign of penitence every Holy Week.

When I was younger, I remember seeing lots of religious theme movies including that of Jesus' suffering and crucifixion being shown on TV during Holy Week. On Easter Sunday, people go to church and then celebrate the day by going outing with family mostly at the beach. EASTER means "NEW LIFE" or "NEW BEGINNINGS" just like Jesus' rise from death so is the season of Spring when nature comes back to life after being dormant in winter where the non-religious Easter tradition is derived. In this post, I will be sharing my version of an indoor Easter game which we played last Easter. We used the theme "Thumper Rabbit", a character in Disney's "Bambi" animated movie but this DIY can also be adapted to any kind of rabbit character you want. In this game, I reused tiny plastic eggs from previous ones I bought in the supermarket that stored these tiny bits of candies inside them, I just kept these tiny plastic eggs and they were useful in this activity as storage for papers with written messages in them for our game.
You can also use regular sized plastic eggs to store your papers with written Spring season or Easter related actions and messages in them, you could blend religious and non-religious together such as: "hop like a bunny", "draw a chick", "bonus surprise egg", "draw a cross" etc. that the child can receive or will do as they open the plastic eggs. We used about 7 or 8 pieces of plastic eggs but you may use more if you are playing with 2 or more kids, come up with your own actions and things to write on the paper. You could have food (chocolate eggs, etc.) or toys whichever you prefer as prizes in fulfilling the actions and the kids can get some extra bonus surprise eggs on the side if they get and open the plastic egg with that bonus!
