It's Easter time again, every year I like to try and explore different themes as creative inspiration for fun and learning. This year, I decided on "chick" as the theme of our Easter activity.

Easter means "new life" or "new beginnings", just like the resurrection of Jesus, the season of Spring also means new life of nature after being dormant during winter and it is also the time of birth of new life in the world of animals.
PLANNING THE EASTER ACTIVITY
For learning purposes, our "Easter activity" is a week-long activity, I mostly made and prepare all the things we have in our Easter activity about 2 weeks before our Easter week schedule. I usually pick a starting date for our "Easter activity" a week earlier leading up to Easter.
During the Easter week, we play an Easter game and I award some prizes to make it more interesting, we also make an Easter art or craft that is related to the theme plus listen to a song or do an action dance, read or watch a story then on Easter Sunday I give out Easter treats to Lauren. We take some pictures with our Easter picture props and some decorations for a colorful and fun memory of our Easter activity.
CREATE AN EASTER CHICK DECORATION
I made this "Easter chick box" as a decoration and egg treats container, this was adapted from an "animal box" craft I saw but I just made my own version with a chick. I cut strips of green crepe paper as grasses on which the chick box will lay on. Lauren took 6 of the eggs and placed them in her small Easter basket as her Easter treat.
HOW TO CREATE CHICK BOX:
STEP #1: Take a chick "head and feet" template or you may draw one. Google some chick templates, just choose any pattern you like and before printing the pattern custom scale to a size in the printing settings that would fit best with the box you are using.
STEP #2: Trace the chick head and feet pattern on a cardboard from an empty box. Cut the cardboard pattern and paint it using acrylic paint.
STEP #3: Also paint the box (the chick's body) with the same color as your chick head.
STEP #4: After painted pieces are all dry, glue the chick head to one end of the box and on the other end glue the feet.
STEP #5: Decorate your chick with eyes and beak or other embellishments if you like, using construction papers and pattern papers.
STEP #6: You may put strips of paper in the box, I used yellow crepe papers to signify the color or feathers of the chick, the bed of paper strips sort of elevates the eggs you will put into the box, if you don't have a lot of eggs that will fill the box. Add some plastic eggs into your box. Our eggs contain chocolates and candies inside.

HOW TO CREATE SPRING FLOWERS PAPER CROWN:
STEP #1: Take a green board paper and measure it about 3 inches in width, create a long strip and measure it around the head. Once the desired length is acquired cut then tape the ends to create a round crown.

CHOOSING A "CHICK" ART OR CRAFT + LINKS TO FREE PRINTABLES
For this year's Easter activity, Lauren did this simple "egg carton chick". We used the egg holders from plastic egg trays for it as we have lots of these egg trays and we were able to recycle them for this craft.
Lauren painted her chick using yellow acrylic paint as this is the type of paint that sticks well to a plastic material of the egg holders we used. Choose any chick craft or art you want to make, take a look at any type of ideas and inspiration for a chick art or craft, choose one you like with materials you already have or are easily accessible for you.
Check out the links below for some FREE printable "Chick Coloring Pages", these selected pages come with big, cute and beautiful chick pictures in Spring sceneries and elements that are fun to color in for kids of all ages! The links are arranged according to how they are numbered in the collage image above.
CHICK EASTER GAMES + LINKS TO FREE PRINTABLES!
You need to have some small baskets to store the paper eggs you collected from this game, as suggested you can use small cupcake wrappers or if you don't have it, you can try small boxes you have around, just glue the "handle" that goes with the printable to it. I used a "cube box" template to create our mini baskets for the game. Click Here To Check Out The Printable Cube Box Template, We used the 1 1/2" cube box for our baskets. Just cut the part which is the cover of the box to leave it open, then attach the handles to make it a basket. If you want a sturdy and colorful basket, print the cube template on a heavy weight paper or pattern paper.

EASTER EGG TREATS | DIY BASKET USING RECYCLED MATERIALS + LINKS TO PRINTABLE PATTERN PAPERS!
For the Easter treats I used plastic eggs and store the treats inside it, I recycled the pink plastic eggs that we used from last year. Recycle your plastic eggs and decorate them differently every time you have Easter games or activities, you can also just print any character or element you like on a bond paper and stick them on the eggs using a solid glue stick. I also made an Easter basket to store the plastic eggs by recycling a large empty noodle bowl and wrapped it with a "teal" colored polka dot scrapbooking paper.
HOW TO MAKE AN EASY EASTER BASKET USING RECYCLED NOODLE BOWLS OR EMPTY CARDBOARD BOX:
STEP #1: Recycle a large empty instant noodle bowl, take off its label and trace the pattern on a scrapbook paper. Print the digital scrapbook paper on heavy weight paper and trace noodle bowl label pattern on it. You may choose any color or pattern of paper you like.
STEP #2: If you don't have a large instant noodle bowl, try using an empty cardboard box with size just enough as your Easter basket, paint or wrap it with pattern paper, check out the links above for some FREE printable digital papers you can use.
STEP #3: Attach a handle to your basket using hot glue to make it more secure and won't easily detached as your child will hold or carry it.
STEP #4: Add some embellishments around the inner sides of your basket such as green leaves or grasses using scotch tape or hot melt glue.
Have fun exploring and learning about Easter at home, whether it be Spring related or Religious & Christian themed.
