Happy Birthday to me. This year I chose "Love Fairy" as the theme for this simple birthday DIY I'm going to do for myself. "Love" because my birthday is on the month of Love and "Fairy" because I've always been fascinated with the fantasy stuff and fairies are one of my favorite magical creatures. As I was thinking about a possible theme for my birthday, the idea came to me about love or heart fairies and so I googled "love fairy" images for ideas on colors and elements for this DIY.

This is what I came up with for my own actual "love fairy" theme birthday as you can see in the pictures above which is limited and a simple one as this is just something I do to honor the day I came into this world and not a big party or celebration with loads of visitors but in this post, I'll be doing and sharing more ideas as well as some links to FREE printable templates and other related stuff that can help and you can use to create your own version of a simple but fun, colorful and memorable "love fairy" theme birthday.
I chose the colors black, gold, red and dark pink for my DIY, but you can pick any shade of color combinations you like related to this theme. The main color elements for this theme are: red, black, gray, pink, gold, or you can also incorporate silver. You may also use any additional colors to make some contrast to the main colors we mostly use here such as green and brown which is the color of foliage and nature that is the environment that fairies are mostly represented in illustrations. Base on art interpretations, these are the elements that goes with a "love fairy" theme: hearts, flowers, fairy, butterflies, dragonflies, you may also add leaves or foliage.
LOVE FAIRY Theme Elements
I like to balance the theme elements in my DIY. For example, if I already used hearts as banners, I would limit or omit it in any other things or decorations and try to highlight another element or maybe color when it comes to making the treat bags or other decorations so there would be not too many or too much of one or the same elements in the overall outcome of the DIY pertaining to a certain theme but you are able to incorporate some of the other related elements as well.
DIY BACKDROP & TABLE SKIRT TUTORIAL
I make backdrops as special picture background for any occasion. You may create a backdrop for use in any of your desired chosen purpose such as for picture background, birthday table background, dessert table background, or something like a mini stage background, etc. You may use or combine any of the theme color elements according to your preference.
I mostly use crepe papers for my backdrops but you can use any material you want such as curtain, fabric, etc. that is suitable to the area you will be placing it. For my DIY backdrop I use whole black crepe paper at the base and had strips of dark pink, gold, and red crepe papers at the top. If you prefer to use crepe paper like I did, create your own crepe paper curtain backdrop that you can easily attach to a wall on celebration day, Click Here For Details On "How To Create Crepe Paper Curtain", you can also adapt the same process in creating a table skirt for a dessert or birthday table.
DECORATING YOUR BACKDROP + LINKS TO FREE PRINTABLES!
Add any decoration on your backdrop such as flowers, hearts, fairies or dragonflies and butterflies as their wings resembles those of fairies. You may also add some leaves or vines to represent foliage. Chose any elements you like and just decorate them anywhere, the way you want it by hanging or sticking them all around the backdrop. I use butterflies since their wings kind of resemble fairies and they kind of make up for the fairy elements that I wasn't able to make. I also put together some fairy silhouettes that you can cut and stick all around a backdrop, Click Here To Check Out The FREE Printable Fairy Silhouettes. Print fairies to "printable area" of a 8.5 x 11 size bond paper, leave a thin white border around the edges of the fairies when cutting as seen in the sample below. Print it on a heavy weight paper such as vellum board, specialty board, cardstock or any paper of similar texture.

BIRTHDAY BANNER IDEAS + LINKS TO SUGGESTED PRINTABLE BANNERS

Print them on a plain or colored heavy weight paper spelling out any word of your choice. You may add any element as additional embellishment on the plain banners to spice them up a bit. A SIMPLE WAY TO GIVE BACK TO OTHERS ON YOUR BIRTHDAY!
This year, I tried something I haven't done before and I think from now on it's a good idea to do one for my birthday or Lauren's birthday. This is the idea of giving a gift to others on your birthday, it could be anything or something that could make someone you give it to smile or feel happy. It could be something like food or anything that they like or would suit the person you will give it to. Put it in your customize treat bags using ready made or printable ones. I put mine in these little treat bags, I use a printable one and print them on a red paper, Click Here To Check Out The FREE Printable Gift Bag & Box Templates. I used bag #1, this is a small treat bag that is good for storing about 2 - 3 small or about 4 very small things in them.
Print them on a heavy weight pattern paper or colored paper of your choice. You could give them to everyone in your family or friends as a token of appreciation for everything they are and have done for you all these years in your life. I added a simple "happy birthday to you!' label at the front of my bags, these are cupcake toppers but you can also use them as a label for any small birthday treat bags or boxes. Aside from the "happy birthday" word, you could add any word of choice for your gifts related or that would suit the people you will be giving it to such as: "something for you", "for you" "so very grateful for you" "thankful for you", etc. Click Here To Check Out Printable Thank You Labels I put together as seen in the sample picture above. These labels are great for the printable bag I used here or any small paper bag, you may scale the size of the labels to suit the bags or boxes you will be sticking it to. I scaled the sample printed labels to "80" in the printing settings before printing.
Here are some FREE printable digital papers in the theme colors with heart elements representing "love" which are also perfect for use as paper for your DIY treat bags or boxes, just print them on a white heavy weight paper then print a blank treat bag template at the back of the printed pattern paper.

You may add extra borders on plain labels by gluing it to a colored paper and cut with plain or decorative scissors.
BALLOON IDEAS + LINK TO DIY BALLOON DECORATION TUTORIAL
Create your own balloons in the theme colors to decorate on the birthday table or tables if you are having a little party. You can also make a smaller balloon as a centerpiece for the tables using the same method but with just 1 layer base. I made my balloons in 2 layers at the base which I used to decorate the side of the cake at the birthday table. DIY CAKE & LINKS TO EASY CAKE & FROSTING RECIPES + SIMPLE DECORATING IDEAS
I found this simple rosette cake in a bakeshop covered in pink, peach, and white rose frosting. I think its lovely and elegant so I chose it as my birthday cake, the frosting also fits the flower element that goes with this theme. I simply added a plain little candle in the middle.

Customize any ordinary cake from the bakeshop to suit the theme or try baking your own cake. Check out this Simple White Cake or Chocolate Depression Cake recipe and frost it using this easy and delicious Fluffy White Frosting, this frosting works well with any basic cake including these 2 (white and chocolate cake) as I have also tried them myself. You may tint the frosting with a liquid food coloring (I use McCormick Assorted Food Colors & Egg Dye Set) or if you want a darker and intense shade, a gel food coloring in your desired color in the theme. Next add some candy sprinkles and insert a "happy birthday" topper, fairy, hearts or flowers on it.
DIY Love Fairy Cake Toppers

I have put together a set of fairies and fairy wings that you can use together to easily create some fairy characters. You may add some embellishments on the fairies using heart and flower sequins or gem stickers to spice them up or transform them as love fairies. You may scale the fairy and wings to your desired size in the settings before printing, I scaled my sample printed fairies at "80" and the wings at "85". When cutting the fairies leave a small white border at the edges as seen in the sample below.
GET A LOW-COST AND QUALITY PRINTER FOR HOME PRINTING!
Print FREE printables for home DIYs and more! I'm using "HP Ink Tank 115" single function inkjet printer in printing the samples above, I bought it online at shopee.ph. It is a quality and low-cost printer for home printing that uses tank for the ink. It needs a total of 4 ink bottles (CMYK) to refill the tank, you can save even more by refilling with universal ink. Just make sure the ink is compatible with the printer model before deciding on a purchase.
